The wait for Rishab Shetty’s much-awaited film Kantara: Chapter 1 is finally over. The prequel to the 2022 blockbuster has already created massive buzz with its teaser and trailer. Written, directed, and headlined by Rishab Shetty, the film introduces audiences to a new heroine South Indian sensation Rukmini Vasanth who played the role of Princess Kanakavati.
Who is Princess Kanavati
Though well known in Kannada cinema, Rukmini is now stepping into the national spotlight. She made her debut in 2019 with Birbal Trilogy, but her breakthrough came with the 2023 romantic drama Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, which won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award. She has also impressed audiences with her performance in Bagheera.

Rukmini comes from a proud army family. She is the daughter of martyred Colonel Vasanth Venugopal, the first soldier from Karnataka to be awarded the Ashoka Chakra, who laid down his life in 2007 in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir. Her mother, Subhashini Vasanth, is a Bharatanatyam dancer and runs a foundation supporting the widows of martyred soldiers.

Trained in acting in London, Rukmini has also appeared in the Hindi film Upstarts. She is regarded as one of the most promising young stars in South Indian cinema.
