Wayanad landslide kills at least 80
The death toll has risen to 63 after landslides hit Kerala’s hilly Wayanad district early Tuesday. Rescue teams are finding body parts in rivers and mud, making it hard to count the exact number of dead. Many women and children are among those killed. Hundreds more are feared trapped. The landslides, caused by heavy rain, have destroyed houses, swollen water bodies, and uprooted trees.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of Tamil Nadu has released Rs 5 crores from the Tamil Nadu CM General Funds for relief efforts in Kerala. Tamil Nadu is also sending 20 firefighters, 20 disaster management personnel, and a medical team of 10 doctors and nurses to help.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and promised full support from the Centre. The NDRF is already on the ground conducting rescue operations. Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah has expressed solidarity. Following instructions from the PMO, MoS George Kurian is heading to Wayanad to oversee relief efforts, coordinating with NDRF, paramilitary forces, and other agencies.

Additionally, 200 Indian Army personnel from Kannur, 30 specialist swimmers from the Indian Navy, and two Indian Air Force helicopters are being deployed for search and rescue operations.
