Devoleena Bhattacharjee, celebrated for her role in the hit TV show Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and her participation in Bigg Boss, urgently reached out to her followers on social media this Friday to share the heart-wrenching news of her friend, Amarnath Ghosh’s, death. Ghosh was tragically shot and killed in the United States on Tuesday night. Bhattacharjee’s post on X implored Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, for their intervention to ensure justice is served.
In her emotional message, Bhattacharjee lamented the unclear circumstances surrounding Ghosh’s murder, revealing that he was an only child whose mother had died three years prior, and whose father had passed away in his childhood. Ghosh, hailing from Kolkata and described as an outstanding dancer working towards his PhD, met his untimely death while on an evening walk in the St. Louis Academy neighborhood, where he was shot several times by an unidentified assailant.
Bhattacharjee also highlighted the efforts of Ghosh’s friends in the US to repatriate his body, yet noted the lack of updates and clarity about the situation. She called upon the Indian Embassy in the US to aid in shedding light on the murder’s motive, emphasizing the absence of family members to pursue justice on his behalf. An active voice on social media, Bhattacharjee frequently shares her views on a variety of subjects. Beyond her acclaimed performance as Gopi Bahu in Saath Nibhaana Saathiya and its sequel, she has appeared in other television series such as Laal Ishq and has been a contestant in two seasons of the renowned reality show Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan.
