Aamir Khan is all set to return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, releasing on June 20, 2025. But while fans are excited to see the superstar again, it’s his latest revelation that’s making hearts melt across the country.

In a recent group interview held in Mumbai, Aamir surprised everyone by announcing that his 90-year-old mother, Zeenat Hussain, will be making her screen debut in the film- entirely unplanned, and entirely special.
“Ammi has never visited me on a film set,” Aamir shared. “But that morning, out of nowhere, she called me and asked, ‘Where are you shooting today? I want to come.’”

What followed was a truly cinematic moment. Aamir arranged for her to be brought to the shoot, a joyful wedding song sequence where she watched the filming from her wheelchair, soaking in the atmosphere.
That’s when director RS Prasanna made a heartfelt suggestion. “He came to me and said, ‘Sir, if you don’t mind, can we request Ammi ji to be in the scene? It’s the final song of the film. She could appear as a wedding guest, just a small part. It would mean a lot.’”

Aamir admitted he was initially hesitant. “I told him, ‘Are you mad? I won’t have the courage to ask her. She’s very ziddi (stubborn). She’s not going to agree.’” But Prasanna insisted, and Aamir gave it a try.
To everyone’s surprise, Zeenat simply said, “Haan, theek hai.”
“I was shocked,” Aamir laughed. “She actually said yes! So yes, Ammi is now in one or two shots. This is the only film of mine she’s ever been a part of and that makes it incredibly emotional for me.”
Adding to the family affair, Aamir’s sister, Nikhat Khan, also features in the film. Unlike their mother, Nikhat is a professional actor and has several scenes. “Given she’s an actor, I’m sure we’ll work together again,” Aamir said with a smile.

Moving away from his earlier works, Sitaare Zameen Par follows the journey of a disillusioned basketball coach played by Aamir who is sentenced to community service after a DUI. Tasked with training neurodivergent adults, he initially struggles but gradually forms deep bonds with his team. As they grow under his guidance, so does he, discovering new meaning in life.

The film stars Genelia Deshmukh as the female lead and introduces ten fresh faces: Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
As Aamir shared, “My mother turns 91 on June 13, just a week before our release. I don’t know what came over her that day, but I’ll cherish this forever.”
