A peculiar fraud case has surfaced in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where cons absconded with 2,100 grams of gold worth 1.9 crore rupees. The scammers used fake 500-rupee notes featuring Bollywood actor Anupam Kher’s image instead of Mahatma Gandhi’s.

The incident took place at a jewellery shop on CG Road. Three individuals presented 26 bundles of fake currency to a jeweller, which facilitated their theft of gold valued at 1.90 crore rupees. The counterfeit notes displayed “Resole Bank of India” rather than the Reserve Bank of India

Jewelry store manager Prashant Patel had instructed trader Mehul Thakkar to send the gold to the “Patel Kantilal Madanlal Angadia Firm.” Thakkar dispatched his employee, Bharat Joshi, to make the delivery. When Joshi arrived, he provided a counting machine to one man; another took the gold while the third claimed that 1.30 crore rupees were in the bag, asking Joshi to fetch an additional 30 lakh from the next office.

Exploiting Joshi’s momentary distraction, the trio escaped with the gold. It wasn’t until Joshi inspected the bag that he realized all the notes were fake, featuring Anupam Kher’s picture. The police are now investigating and searching for the suspects using CCTV footage.
