The Union Cabinet has approved granting classical language status to Marathi, prompting a response from Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. He stated that it is a significant honor for Marathi to be recognized as a classical language. Five languages have received this status: Bengali, Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, and Assamese. The demand for this recognition has been ongoing for years.

Raut further noted that leaders from nearly all political parties in the state, along with every Chief Minister and state government over the past 30-35 years, have advocated for this recognition. He emphasized that this achievement is a collective effort, not the result of any one individual. He criticized the BJP for their tendency to take credit for everything and urged them to prevent industry and trade from leaving the state, emphasizing the need for both the Marathi language and the state’s prestige to be upheld.
