Navjot Singh Sidhu, the ever-controversial cricketer-turned-politician-turned-TV personality, has once again grabbed headlines this time with a striking revelation about comedian Kapil Sharma’s early days.

In a candid vlog on his YouTube channel, Sidhu claimed he played a decisive role in giving Kapil his big TV break. According to him, Kapil’s flagship comedy show was greenlit by the channel only on the condition that Sidhu would join as a permanent guest.

“Kapil came to me with folded hands,” Sidhu recalled, “He said, Paaji, if you agree to be on the show, the channel will give me my own program.” The channel’s then-head, Raj Nayak of Colors TV, had made it clear that Sidhu’s presence was necessary to pull in high TRPs. A breakfast meeting later, the deal was done and the rest is television history.

Reflecting on Kapil’s early journey, Sidhu added, “He rose to fame with The Great Indian Laughter Challenge, but was later exploited on Comedy Circus. He didn’t have his own identity. I stepped in when he needed support.”

This revelation comes just days after Netflix officially announced Sidhu’s return to The Great Indian Kapil Show after a six-year hiatus. Fans are thrilled to see him reunite with Kapil, sharing the couch with Archana Puran Singh, his longtime comic counterpart. Season 3 of the show is set to premiere on June 21.

Sidhu was a fixture on Kapil’s comedy sets from 2012 until 2019, when he exited following a controversial remark related to the Pulwama terror attack. Now, with his comeback, nostalgia is hitting an all-time high among fans.

In the same vlog, Sidhu also peeled back the curtain on his unexpected appearance in Bigg Boss back in 2012. Unlike many, who join for fame, Sidhu revealed he entered the reality show out of financial desperation.

“I was building my house in Amritsar and couldn’t afford it on my politician’s salary,” he admitted. “Bigg Boss offered a hefty payout. Though they could only keep me for a month, I exited with my dignity intact. I never said a bad word about anyone.”

His brief stint on the controversial show led to a fresh opportunity in sports broadcasting, a commentary job with Star Sports, making his diverse career even stronger.

With this dramatic comeback and no-holds-barred storytelling, Sidhu seems set to reclaim his seat not just on Kapil’s set, but also in the hearts of millions of viewers.
