Kannada actor arrested for alleged role in murder
Darshan Thoogudeepa, a popular Kannada actor, was detained today in connection with a murder, police said, two days after a case went into effect.
Darshan was apprehended by police at his place of residence in Mysore this morning. He would be brought to Bengaluru for further questioning, according to officials. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) stated that the 47-year-old actor had been arrested.

Renuka Swamy was slain on June 8, according to authorities. On June 9, his body was recovered in a sewer in Kamakshipalya, Bengaluru. According to officials, Mr Swamy, who worked for a pharmacy company, sent “obscene messages” to an actress close to Darshan via social media.
Swamy was from Chitradurga, 200 km away from Karnataka’s capital.

When local people witnessed stray dogs carrying a body from the drain, they reported it to authorities. Investigations resulted in the arrest of some suspects who allegedly directed police to Darshan.
“He was my only son.” Last year, he married. I chatted with him only on Saturday. “I want justice,” Mr Swamy’s father, Srinivasaiah, said.

Darshan’s RR Nagar apartment in Bengaluru has been heavily guarded by the police.
The authorities are investigating if Darshan was actively involved in the murder or was part of the plan. Nine other people have been arrested in connection with the case.
