In a strong message to adversaries, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar made it clear on Thursday that any military aggression against India will trigger a “very firm response.” Addressing a press conference alongside visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Jaishankar emphasized that while India does not seek escalation with Pakistan, its security interests remain non-negotiable.

The warning comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which Jaishankar described as “barbaric.” He said the assault left India with no choice but to take targeted action against cross-border terrorist infrastructure on May 7.

“Our response was precise and calculated,” he stated, underscoring India’s stance on counter-terrorism. “Let me be clear, we do not want to escalate the situation. But any military attack on India will be met with a very firm and resolute reply.”

Jaishankar also highlighted the importance of transparency with regional partners. He said India values Iran’s understanding of the current developments, especially given their strong bilateral ties and geographical proximity.
