Saurabh Meena, an Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, was detained in relation to the suicide of a woman whose body was found in his posh Noida flat hanging from a noose.

When police hurried to Tower 8 of the luxury Lotus Boulevard apartment complex in Sector 100 in Noida on Saturday afternoon, the building’s residents were taken aback. Upon arriving at Saurabh’s residence, they found the body of Shilpa Gautam, a human resources representative of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), dangling from a cotton rope in one of the rooms.

Shilpa and Saurabh allegedly had a three-year romance, according to Shilpa’s relatives. Their romance apparently took off after they met via a dating app. Saurabh has been accused of lying and abusing Shilpa physically by her father, OP Gautam. According to Gautam, the IRS official had promised to marry Shilpa but had broken his word, which resulted in disagreements and even physical assaults.

In response, Saurabh said that while he did meet Shilpa via a dating app, it was just three months ago—not three years ago as Shilpa’s family had stated.
OP Gautam took a step further in his statement to the Sector-39 police, charging Saurabh with killing his daughter. He claimed Saurabh continuously harassed Shilpa after luring her in with false promises of marriage. After filing a report, the police took Saurabh into custody.

According to Manish Kumar Mishra, the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Noida, Saurabh was taken into custody by the police after they presented him before a judge. According to Mishra, “Every aspect of the case is being investigated meticulously.” The post-mortem report is being awaited by the police in order to determine the cause of death. To piece together the sequence of events that led to Shilpa’s death, they are also closely inspecting the two individuals’ cell phones and going over community CCTV footage in the interim.
