In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of outrage across India, a 27-year-old Israeli tourist and a 29-year-old homestay operator were allegedly gang-raped near the historic town of Hampi in Karnataka. The attack occurred late Thursday night by the serene banks of Sanapur Lake, where the women, accompanied by three male tourists, had gathered to stargaze.

The nightmare unfolded around 11 PM when a group of men approached on a motorcycle, initially asking for petrol and then demanding ₹100. When the tourists refused, the situation escalated violently. The assailants attacked the group, pushing the male tourists into a nearby canal before turning on the women.

Two of the men—Daniel from the United States and Pankaj from Maharashtra—managed to escape and raise the alarm. However, the third tourist, Bibash from Odisha, remains missing. A frantic search operation involving fire officials and the police’s dog squad is currently underway to locate him.

Superintendent of Police, Koppal, Ram L Arasiddi, revealed that a case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including gang rape, robbery, and attempted murder. “Six special teams have been formed to hunt down the perpetrators. We are leaving no stone unturned,” he assured.

The victims are receiving medical treatment at a government hospital, and their condition is being closely monitored.
