Officials stated that IIT Indore has delivered the first batch of 10 pairs of these shoes to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). These shoes were developed under the guidance of Professor IA Palani from IIT Indore. They explained that the shoes use Tribo-Electric Nano-Generator (TENG) technology, which generates electricity with every step taken. This electricity is stored in a device embedded in the soles of the shoes, which can then be used to power small devices.

Additionally, the shoes are equipped with Global Positioning System (GPS) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies, enabling the real-time tracking of military personnel. Professor Suhas Joshi, Director of IIT Indore, mentioned that the innovative features of these shoes will enhance the safety, coordination, and efficiency of military personnel.

Officials noted that shoes equipped with TENG technology could also be used to track the location of elderly individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s, school-going children, and mountaineers. Moreover, these shoes can help monitor attendance and work activities in factories. They can also be used to accurately analyze athletes’ foot movements, leading to improved performance through better training.
