The chilling murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi is now set to be immortalized on the silver screen. Filmmaker SP Nimbawat, best known for the 2018 sports drama Kabbadi, has announced a gripping cinematic adaptation of the real-life crime that rocked the nation earlier this year.

Tentatively titled Honeymoon in Shillong, the film will unravel the tragic tale of a romantic getaway gone fatally wrong. Raja, who had travelled to Meghalaya with his wife Sonam in May, mysteriously vanished only for his mutilated body to be discovered days later in a remote gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji), East Khasi Hills.

What followed was a sensational investigation: eight arrests, including Raja’s own wife and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha. As details emerged, the country watched in stunned silence.
Director Nimbawat, who has secured consent from Raja’s family, believes this story demands to be told. “Dil mein dard to sabhi ke tha,” he says, “This case gripped the entire nation. It’s a complex mix of love, betrayal, murder, and mystery. If I didn’t tell it, someone else would have.”

Raja’s brothers, Sachin and Vipin Raghuvanshi, have voiced their support for the project. “If we don’t bring our brother’s story to the big screen, people will never know the truth,” they said in a statement. They also hope the film helps correct public perception about Meghalaya, a state they say deserves fair representation.

The film’s script is currently in development, with 80% of the shooting planned in Indore and the remaining in Shillong. While the core storyline will remain faithful to actual events, Nimbawat admits there will be fictional elements to enhance cinematic appeal. “The broader truth stays intact,” he confirms, “but to make a compelling film, we’ll package it with dramatic layers.”
