On Tuesday, the BJP embarked on a playful mission to ensure that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi experiences jalebi, following his recent remarks about a local sweet shop that went viral. After the BJP achieved an impressive victory in Haryana, the state unit took a jab at Gandhi by arranging for a box of jalebi to be sent to his residence. A screenshot from a food delivery app confirmed that an order for 1 kg of the popular sweet was placed from a renowned shop in Connaught Place, Delhi, to 24 Akbar Road.

“On behalf of all the workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party Haryana, jalebi has been sent to Rahul Gandhi’s house,” the Haryana BJP announced on social media.

The incident began when Gandhi, while campaigning in Gohana for the assembly elections, praised the legendary Matu Ram halwai for its jalebi, suggesting that it should be sold across India and even exported. He noted that if produced in bulk in a factory, it could create more job opportunities. However, his comments quickly sparked a wave of jokes and memes online, with many pointing out that jalebi is best enjoyed fresh rather than mass-produced.

The jalebi-themed banter didn’t stop with Haryana; the Gujarat BJP also joined in, posting photos of its leaders, including Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, sharing jalebi at a “jalebi party.” State media co-adviser Zubin Ashara commented on social media, “Rahul Gandhi is helping us achieve our dream of making India Congress-free. So, it’s our duty to fulfill his dream by making jalebi the most popular sweet today. Jalebi Party at Party office!”
