In the recent Bihar Assembly session, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar successfully passed the floor test with a unanimous vote of 130-0, defeating the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) led by Tejashwi Yadav.
This victory follows Kumar’s decision to leave the Mahagathbandhan, a grand alliance consisting of JD(U), RJD, and Congress, and join forces with the NDA coalition.
During the session, three RJD legislators—Prahlad Yadav, Neelam Devi, and Chetan Anand—switched sides to support the NDA. Kumar, in his speech, accused the RJD of trying to take credit for his initiatives and criticized the previous Lalu Prasad-Rabri Devi governments for not contributing to Bihar’s development.
Additionally, the Assembly voted to dismiss Speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary with 125 votes in favor. In the lead-up to the vote, to prevent potential defections, the Congress relocated its MLAs to Hyderabad, RJD legislators stayed at Tejashwi Yadav’s residence, while the BJP’s 78 members and 40 of JD(U)’s MLAs secured accommodations in Patna hotels.
