After Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has made a significant statement regarding population growth. During an event in Chennai organized by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Board, Stalin suggested that it might be time for newlyweds to focus on having 16 children.

According to a report from India Today, this remark came during a ceremony where 31 couples were married. Stalin stated that perhaps the emphasis should shift from acquiring 16 types of wealth to having 16 children. He explained that previously, elders would bless newlyweds to acquire 16 types of wealth, but now it seems the blessing has changed to having a sufficient number of children for a prosperous life.

He added, “When elders said to have 16 offspring and live a prosperous life, it didn’t literally mean 16 children, but rather 16 types of wealth, which the author Vishwa Nathan described in his book as cattle, home, wife, children, education, curiosity, knowledge, discipline, land, water, age, vehicle, gold, property, crops, and appreciation. However, nowadays, no one is blessing you with the acquisition of these 16 types of wealth; instead, the focus is solely on having enough children to live a prosperous life.”
It’s noteworthy that Stalin is not the only chief minister making such population-related statements. Prior to him, Chandrababu Naidu had also urged people to have more than two children.

While addressing a gathering in Amaravati on October 19, Naidu emphasized the importance of maintaining demographic advantages beyond 2047. He encouraged people not to adopt family planning and to have more than two children, stating that population is an asset, not a burden. He also mentioned plans to introduce a new law to honor families with more than two children, and noted that candidates with more than two children would be eligible to contest in local elections.
