The police say the man is the boyfriend of Kriti Kumari’s roommate. The couple often fought because he was unemployed, and Kriti Kumari would intervene. She had advised her roommate to stay away from him, which angered him and led to the murder.

CCTV cameras in the hostel recorded the incident. The footage shows the man knocking on Kriti’s door, then dragging her into the corridor and attacking her. Despite her efforts to fight back, he overpowered her and stabbed her repeatedly in the neck before running away. Other residents, hearing the noise, rushed out and one of them called the police.
